Meta Who?

Find out a little about Meta Knight.

Who is Meta Knight?:
Meta Knight is a male character that shows up in alot of the Kirby games. If you never heard of or played any Kirby games, you'll likely not know about Meta Knight. In 1992, a game featuring a ball-like character named Kirby was released for the original Nintendo Gameboy, Kirby's Dreamland. Kirby's Dreamland was designed by Masahiro Sakurai. The story of Kirby inhabiting in a place called Dreamland located on Popstar needs to recover all of Dreamland's stolen food from the troublesome King Dedede. Kirby's Dreamland was the first game to the Kirby series. Later in 1993, another Kirby game, also designed by Masahiro Sakurai debuted for the NES, Kirby's Adventure. This time Kirby encounters a mysterious masked swordsman during his journey, Meta Knight, leader of the Meta-knights. Kirby's Adventure was the first game Meta Knight appeared in.

While Kirby is the main star, Meta Knight earned his own spotlight. His role varies in each title, either seen like a rival or a ally to Kirby. His intentions are not always clear though due to his unpredictable actions. He hides his true face under a mask and wears a blue/purple cape carrying a sword with pride. In some games, his cape can transform into bat-like wings and take flight. Several times, Meta Knight has fought against Kirby for different reasons and is sworn to fight fair and square whenever he challenges the pink ball by providing a sword for Kirby to use before the duel starts. Meta Knight is often described to be very fair, making his beliefs of chivalry true. One of his most popular appearances is Revenge of Meta Knight in Kirby Super Star, which he plots to rule over Dreamland. He as well has played many good roles in the games such as Kirby and the Amazing Mirror and Kirby Squeak Squad. Meta Knight is a major character in the 2001 anime, Hoshi no Kaabii helping Kirby when needed and trains him to be a great Star Warrior. Meta Knight finally becomes a playable character in Super Smash Bros Brawl. Around Sept 2008, he returns in the remake of Kirby Super Star, Kirby Super Star Ultra. In 2010, he gets the yarn makeover in Kirby's Epic Yarn. 2011, he joins Kirby, King Dedede and Waddle Dee on a journey in Kirby Return to Dreamland for the Nintendo Wii.
